Heatables Instructions and Safety

We include a leaflet in every order of hand warmers, a wheat bag or a weighted sleep mask, but we thought it would be handy to have a guide on the website too, because it's easier to keep track of than a piece of paper!

Our reusable wheat bags and hand warmers are designed to provide comforting warmth whenever you need it. Each heatable has a removable fabric cover, so only the inner wheat bag needs to go into the microwave.

Please read the heating and safety instructions below before using your heatable for the first time, and keep them for future reference.

How to Heat Your Wheat Bag

Always remove the outer fabric cover before heating. The cover should never be placed in the microwave.

Place the inner wheat bag flat in a clean microwave, making sure that the turntable can rotate freely.

Heat for 30 seconds initially, then carefully check the temperature. If you would like it warmer, continue heating in 10-second bursts, checking the temperature between each burst.

Never exceed the maximum heating time, which is a minute for all three heatable products.

Once it has reached a comfortable temperature, carefully remove the inner bag from the microwave and place it back inside its fabric cover before use.

Before Using Your Heated Wheat Bag

Always check the temperature before placing your heatable against your body. Wheat can develop hot spots during heating, so the temperature may not feel completely uniform throughout the bag.

If it feels too hot, allow it to cool before use. Never use excessive heat or leave a hot wheat bag in prolonged contact with your skin, as this may cause burns.

Important Wheat Bag Safety Information

For safe use of your heatable:

  • Microwave only. Do not heat using an oven, hob, air fryer or other heat source.
  • Always remove the outer cover and heat the inner wheat bag only.
  • Never exceed the maximum stated heating time.
  • Heating must always be supervised. Never leave a wheat bag unattended in a microwave.
  • Make sure your microwave is clean before heating.
  • Check that the microwave turntable can rotate freely to encourage even heating and reduce the risk of hot patches.
  • Keep the wheat bag flat while heating. Do not fold, bunch or tightly roll it.
  • Allow your wheat bag to cool completely before reheating. Never reheat a bag that is still warm.
  • Do not use your heatable as a bed warmer or place it beneath bedding.
  • Do not sleep with a heated wheat bag or hand warmer.
  • Allow the inner wheat bag to cool completely before storing it.
  • Regularly inspect the inner bag, seams and fabric. Stop using it if you notice holes, damage, scorching, charring or a burnt smell.
  • Keep the wheat-filled inner bag dry and store it in a cool, dry place.
  • Contains wheat.
  • Not suitable for children under 3 years old. Children should be supervised when using a heatable.

Caring for Your Heatable

One of the benefits of our removable-cover design is that you can care for the decorative cover separately from the wheat-filled inner.

Never wash or immerse the inner wheat bag in water. Keep the wheat filling completely dry.

Remove the outer cover before washing and follow the care instructions provided with your particular product. Make sure the cover is completely dry before putting the wheat bag back inside.

Do not add water, essential oils, fragrance oils or other liquids to the inner wheat bag.

When Should I Replace My Wheat Bag?

Wheat bags don't last forever. Repeated heating gradually dries the wheat, while regular use can cause wear to the fabric and seams.

Check your inner wheat bag regularly and stop using it if you notice any signs of damage, including holes, weakened seams, scorching, discolouration or an unusual burnt smell.

If your inner wheat bag has reached the end of its usable life but your fabric cover is still in good condition, replacement wheat bags are available separately without the cover. This means you can continue enjoying your original design without replacing the whole product.

Wheat Bag FAQs

Can I microwave the fabric cover?

No. Always remove the fabric cover before heating and place only the inner wheat bag in the microwave. Replace the cover after heating.

How long should I microwave my wheat bag?

Begin by heating the inner bag for 30 seconds and checking its temperature. If necessary, continue in 10-second bursts until comfortably warm. Never exceed the maximum heating time stated for your particular product.

Can I reheat my wheat bag?

Yes, but only once it has completely cooled to room temperature. Never repeatedly reheat a wheat bag that is already warm.

Can I sleep with my wheat bag?

No. Heated wheat bags should not be used while sleeping or used as bed warmers. Do not place a heated wheat bag underneath bedding.

Can I wash my wheat bag?

The wheat-filled inner bag cannot be washed and must be kept dry. The removable fabric cover can be washed separately according to its care instructions.

My wheat bag smells burnt. Can I still use it?

No. Stop using a wheat bag if you notice a burnt smell, scorching, charring or other signs of overheating or damage.

Can children use the hand warmers and wheat bags?

They are not suitable for children under 3 years old. Children using a heatable should be supervised, and an adult should be responsible for heating it and checking its temperature.

Can I buy a replacement inner wheat bag?

Yes. Replacement inner wheat bags are available separately, so if your original inner reaches the end of its usable life you don't necessarily need to replace your fabric cover.
